Students with Learning Disabilities Not every child thrives in conventional learning settings.  Some students need to be in schools with specialized language-based learning support, some need numerous experiential initiatives in order for them to absorb the material. The more we learn about the developing brain, the more sophisticated educators are able to become in making sure children are able to learn and retain material. Identifying the child’s needs can be complicated and parents often hear conflicting information causing confusion and distress. Our work is to help parents and students understand their needs and find the schools most likely to effectively help support the student however necessary. Some students need remediation, others tutorial support. The philosophy, type of structure and individual interpretation of how to effectively educate its intended population of students are all aspects that differentiate schools from one another. Our work is to help determine the student’s needs and abilities so that the choices made become vessels through which students succeed. an environment where they are free to move. Others need an environment with little extraneous stimulation.  Learning disabilities are being diagnosed at an alarming rate, but that doesn’t mean that students with them can’t thrive and succeed. Placed in the right environment, learning disabilities become learning differences that are met with individualized strategies to revive and/or further stimulate the student’s desire and ability to learn.

Students with learning differences often struggle to “keep up” as they try to adapt to educational systems they cannot understand or interpret. When these students are placed in schools where their needs are understood and where his differences are “the norm” they begin to succeed and their confidence soars.  Their outlook on life changes.  A defeated, sullen, frustrated student becomes hopeful, energized, and motivated.

Nancy’s work in this area is focused on identifying the student’s needs, developing strategies and recommending schools where each child will find success. She will work with you, the school, and any professionals that your child has been working with throughout the years to find the best placement to meet his or her educational needs.
